Teaching

I believe in the power of a Brave Community where people are willing to challenge and be challenged and
learn from, with, and for others.

Since Fall of 2019, I've been teaching and supervising preservice teachers in Elementary Education programs at University of Wisconsin - Madison.
As educators' personal contexts matter in how they understand and make professional decisions in teaching practices, centering an equity-oriented mindset with critical self-reflection on educators' own biases and beliefs has been one of the highlights of my teaching.

Students' comments in course evaluations

This instructor does an astounding job at helping me and my classmates prepare to be teachers ourselves. She proposes problems that are relevant to the education system today, and helps us brainstorm ways in which we can be better responsive and aware to these issues.

Not only is this instructor knowledgable in the course content, she is also very kind-hearted. The class was structured and organized very well by her, but nothing felt like a chore to do. I genuinely felt like all she wanted for us to walk away with new insightful knowledge, which is amazing.

Ju gave so much feedback and critiques in which I was open to because I truly want to grow and improve.

She was a wonderful teacher who was very kind and knew how to help all her students. My favorite teacher at UW Madison.

Ju has been one of my favorite teachers I have ever had. She is so kind and really cares about her students. She values individuality and culture and is a role model for me as I enter the field of teaching.

She was always willing to help me out! She truly cared about my learning process!

I loved having Ju as my supervisor. She worked hard and cared about how I was doing. She was always timely and consistently checked in.
